Jr Knighthawks Teams for 2014 Tournament

(August 5, 2014)... The Rochester Knighthawks announced the tryout dates for the 2014 Junior National Lacrosse League Tournament. The opportunity to wear the jersey of the five-time NLL Champion Knighthawks will begin on Sunday, August 10th at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena in Hagersville, Ontario.

The Toronto Rock Athletic Centre (TRAC) in Oakville, Ontario will again play host to the Junior NLL Tournament from Thursday August 29th to Sunday, August 31st. The tournament will be officiated by NLL referees and played under the NLL’s rulebook. The players will wear the same numbers as the actual Knighthawks’ roster.

The Knighthawks are fielding teams at the Pee Wee (birth years 2002-03), Bantam (2000-01) and Midget levels (1998-99). Kids can register to try out for the Junior Knighthawks at the Arrow Express Office or online at the aeslacrosse.com. There is a one-time, non-refundable registration fee of $30, which will include a team T-shirt. All tryouts and practices will be held at the ILA.

The teams will be selected after holding two tryouts per division. Each roster will feature 16 players and two goalies. The cost to participate is $175, but includes professional coaching, team practices, all tournament fees, insurance, custom Knighthawks Under Armour® gloves, and tournament shorts.

Rochester is one of several teams representing different NLL cities in the tournament for their own version of the Champion’s Cup. Last season, the Knighthawks were joined by the Buffalo Bandits, Colorado Mammoth, Minnesota Swarm, Toronto Rock and Vancouver Stealth at the weekend-long competition at the TRAC.

“What it’s doing is creating awareness for not only the box game, but for lacrosse in general. It’s a dream opportunity for the NLL to reach fans at the youth level,” said 2014 NLL Championship MVP Dan Dawson, who is organizing the Knighthawks involvement in the event. “It gives these kids something to aspire to so when they put on that Knighthawks’ jersey they feel an affiliation, and (can strive to) one day wear the pro jersey.

“It’s a great opportunity for kids to play for their idols,” added Dawson, who coached in the tournament last year. “The players who will be coaching take a lot of pride in what they do, and giving back to the community. It’s going to be a great opportunity for everyone involved.”
