Dawson's Goal Makes Top 10

Dan Dawson’s diving game-winning goal made Sports Center’s Top 10 plays today, coming in at No. 6. The goal with 36 seconds to play gave the Rochester Knighthawks a 10-9 victory over the Toronto Rock Saturday night in Game One of the East Division Finals.

The goal was Dawson’s first of the night and staked Rochester to a 1-0 lead in the best-of-two series.

“It was perfect timing,” said Knighthawks head coach Mike Hasen. “You can’t ask for any more than that.”

Dawson won a loose ball battle in front of the Toronto goal, fought past two defenders and drove to the net. After a stick fake on goalie Brandon Miller, he dove to his left and buried the ball.

“I was just Johnny on the spot,” said Dawson. “I caught (Brandon Miller) off guard with a couple of fakes and was lucky to bury it.”

The series now shifts to Toronto’s Air Canada Centre. Game Two is set for Saturday, May 23rd at 7:00 p.m. With a win, Rochester will advance to the Champion’s Cup Finals. If the series is tied after two games, the teams will play a decisive 10-minute mini-game to determine the winner of the East Division.
